I actually started blogging again at my old domain, kitschy coup, which explains why two months have elapsed and no words. No words.
Because god knows, I have words.
Like:
- Crap. He's awake.
- Ow! That hurts Mommy.
- HOORAY!!!!!
- Where's Daddy?
- Up, Aidan?
- Up, Madi?
While Aidan's placement was easy-easy, hers has been... the polar opposite.
Ah well, did I mention the cuteness?
Yeah, I won the baby lottery. Ka-ching.
:)
...well, the idea of going to Disneyland was bandied about - but ultimately lost out to buying a shiny new computer since, well... Aidan is just by far too small to enjoy Disneyland the way it really ought to be enjoyed. And I know how it ought to be enjoyed. I enjoy Disneyland totally and thoroughly.
Let me just say how buying a firewire cable can escalate quickly. No. No. That's not right. It's funny how ignorance can escalate to a firewire cable to a brand new computer in less than an hour. Like, WHOOSH. Boom. Done.
You see, my parents (yes, let's blame my parents... heh heh heh) gave Greg and I a lovely new DVcam for Christmas (dude - are you AWARE that Christmas is LESS THAN SEVEN WEEKS CAPITAL LETTERS AWAY EXCLAMATION POINT?!?) and last weekend or was it the weekend before when we went to the model homes and we saw my folks, they gave us our early Christmas gift. By the way... it totally rocks. Also? We have become masters at taking video of our son eating. Wow, he is going to have a complex before he turns one. The therapy bills will be large. Time to save up for therapy and fitness center membership now. Anyway.
So. How do you upload the video to the computer? Firewire, right? Right!
Aw, but the Red Devil (the olllld computer) did not have teh wire of fire connection. So. Yeah, had to buy a new computer.
Also? It's so shiny, this new one. And petite.
As I say to Aidan after something extraordinary happens (like, eating peas)... "Hooray!!"
Today is Friday and I am officially unemployed. Yesterday my full-time gig and I parted ways.
If you saw me in person right now, or even 2 minutes after I walked out the door for the final time - well, you might note that I'm not remotely stressed out. In fact, I'm entirely excited by the possibilities. Yesterday I went directly home and applied for unemployment (as directed by my VP of HR... my previous boss), then applied for about 20 jobs. I got 3 calls for interviews. So next week I'll be going out and putting on my best game face. Today I'm going to take it easy. Well, I'm going to the doctor first because I've been out for most of the week (prior to my last day, Thursday) because it's looking like I have bronchitis. Yuck.
Oh, the most awesome thing of all is that Greg is totally zen about this.
\m/
Life, it's good.
We went to buy a house this weekend and there were put on a waiting list. We're vascillating between two different models - one with an outstanding upstairs floorplan and a pretty good kitchen, and the other with an outstanding first floor/kitchen and pretty good upstairs floorplan. Looks like the larger of the two (outstanding upstairs/pretty good downstairs) is going to win out, should everything pan out as it looks like it will. We're waiting for the next phase to be released this week so we can go over and give them our deposit.
I'm so flippin' excited.
The floorplan looks like THIS.
Oh -- and did I mention that the price DROPPED almost $10k the night before we went? Hi. If that isn't a sign? Don't know what is...
Hi. I'm having a bout of insomnia. And by "bout" - I mean, "yeah, I get this all the time and it really messes me up, but hey *shrug* what are ya gonna do?"
A couple of random things...
- Had you heard that Southern California is burning? Yes, it's true. The 24-hour news coverage and beautiful sunsets tell me so. The baby has been coughing and Greg has been using his Albuterol more than usual. We have Malibu to the west and Santa Clarita to the northeast. My heart breaks for the families who have been displaced and lost homes and family members.
- The baby started eating vegetables this week. Green beans. His scrunchy face was PRICELESS. I knew on day one that the green beans were a winner. He confirmed this on the second day when I pulled out the green beans (mmm. smooshy veggies. ew.) and he literally reached out for them. You know, like he was going to give them a HUG.
- Speaking of Aidan and affection... homeslice blows kisses. Which is exactly why my heart is an exploded mess. It just combusted when I saw him do that. He doesn't pucker, he just opens and closes his mouth when you make kissy faces at him. But he only does it when you blow him kisses.
- So yeah, I'm dead from all his cuteness.
...and I don't mean the TV show.
Greg and I are about to buy our first one. Very possibly this weekend. More than likely. See, here's the thing. We've been renters in Los Angeles for about a thousand gajillion years. Or 13. Let's just say my first apartment here was $625/month (1 bed/1 bath) in a good neighborhood, and we currently live in the most densely populated neighborhood (read: ghe-to) and rent in our building is $1800/mo for 2 bed/2 bath... and rent is going up in March. Of course, it's a townhouse with a 2 car garage. I don't even want to think about what rent in a good neighborhood costs. But it's decent because the commute to work is less than 10 minutes. And the shoot My Name is Earl like, down the street from work, and that's always neat.
But I digress. We're buying a house. And this house is an hour away. Because that's what's affordable, and it's really lovely. And I'm really excited. And Aidan? Well, he deserves a really good quality of life. And to live closer to his grandparents. Because we're moving an hour and a half closer to my parents and sisters. So? Win win. Except we're moving further away from Greg's family. Oh, and it's a new development, so it's being built and we get to pick out all the stuff on the inside. Which is cool.
Yeah. I'm totally excited and also want to vomit from nerves at the same time. That's normal, right?
So, this is what the inside of the model looks like (which is EXACTLY what the inside of my house will look like - decoration and colors and all, only completely and totally different and also not at all the same)
Oh my god, I'll be able to cook on a surface longer than 1.5 feet long. Can you imagine? Color me spoiled. (Spartan apartment living has really taken it's toll.)
